Lunchtime excitement!

Boyfriend writing again:

Lunchtime rolled around and Natalie and her friend and coworker, Jackie, came home for lunch. This provided the opportunity to easily execute some swapping of spaces. I'll detail the process.

Step 1: Scarlett gets corralled in the bedroom (pretty easy since I'd gone in there to relax with her for about an hour prior, give Scarlett some attention and normalcy).
Step 2: I take Melly out of the bathroom and hide out of sight with her.
Step 3: N gets Scarlett and takes her to the bathroom to smell around and explore a bit...with the door closed.
Step 4: I release Melly to explore the rest of her home.

What happened next?

This happened next...

Then, it was time for the ladies to return to the office so we reversed the previous process and now Scarlett has the run of most of the home and Melly is back in the isolation room. I think I shall go join her.

You guys are getting good at this! You're giving the girls plenty of time and space to adapt to their changed circumstances. Way to go. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got on this process is from Anitra Frazier's "The Natural Cat." It's similar to rotating bedding between kitties. Put a hand towel under each cat's food dish, then switch towels after a day. It gives each cat the opportunity to experience the scent of the new-to-them cat and associate it with a pleasurable event. Oooh, especially with fresh baked chicken. :) Sending kitty getting along vibes your way.

Oh my gosh Melly is SO happy!!! It's totally pouring out of her! Yay! Hope Scarlett is doing great too, that natural cat curiosity will have her begging to meet Miss Melly in no time!

That video gave me a much needed laugh today! Thank you for posting it (and for Melly being Melly!) You are on the right track - all that's needed is time. BTW - Scarlett is beautiful!

So glad to see Melly and you guys having fun! She's a nut, isn't she? I knew it the first day Sue posted the picture of her with her face in the chicken baby food!

By the way, you are totally spoiling all of us. Now I'm checking for updates every hour. C'mon, Geoff, I'm sure Melly did something funny since your last post. Like Cynthia points out, "she's a nut"! :)

Melly sure was having a great time on that tree and that was a good save at the end. Yep, you've got us hooked! How is Scarlett doing Geoff?

Ha! Yes Tanya, she has certainly done some more stuff, full of cuteness and hilarity.

However, she and I just got back from an outing...details in a new post soon!

Ha! That's a cat having a GOOD time.

Brian, I was pleased to see that after we swapped them back, Scarlett went and played on her tree a bit, sniffing around a bit, but showing no negative reactions. She's gotten some attention, probably more than normal, whereas today I'm more interested in monitoring her and trying to help things go smoothly.

melly is obviously having the best. time. ever!

rooting for you guys and your new little family. it sounds like you're doing everything right. all you need is a little more adjustment time to get everyone used to sharing space. (i imagine parents go through the same kinds of things when they bring new babies home from the hospital!) hang in there!

That sounds good! When Iza (the youngest) came to stay, she stayed in the guest bedroom (naturally) for 2 days (with lots of visits from The Big Thing). Meanwhile, he would hold me for a while before going in and letting Iza smell my furs on him (and vice versa). Then he carried her around the house for a few minutes several times a day until she was a little familiar with it. Finally, he just let her out. She still got fed in the guest bedroom a few days, but TBT gradually moved the bowl to the kitchen. It werked real good!
