Melly's Collar

So, Melly's collar is back off. It wasn't actually a new collar; it was the same little elastic one she came with. I figured that the many tags (pet license, microchip, name & phone number) would be plenty jingly enough without a bell, but it turns out that Melly has a very smooth gait and is able to sneak about without the tags making noise. Next time I'm at the pet store, I'll find her a collar with a bell and we'll give this experiment another go.

In the meantime, Melly is very busy looking floofy and ridiculous.

Such ginormous paws! You are quite the big girl cutie pie... (yes, imagine that being said in that silly high pitched voice I get when talking to kitties in general :D )

Look for a breakaway collar in case Melly gets stuck somewhere. It will pop apart when she tugs hard enough. Don't worry too much about the bell. Cats have remarkably developed hearing.

She's one of the prettiest cats I've ever seen.

Most smart cats learn to walk so the collar doesn't jangle. It's worth a shot, though.

My local pet stores carry 99% breakaway collars. We had to look hard to find a non-breakaway collar for our boys- they consistently get their breakaway collar off in about 3 seconds. Defeats the purpose.

It took a while to find a good break-away collar that was just hard enough to undo. I had more problems because I left the collar too loose at first. My cat would pull it off over her ears, then play with it (it had a jingly bell) then carry it off and deposit it some place I would eventually find it (like under the bed, in my yarn basket, behind the TV.) I'll bet Melly would look great in a sparkley red collar.

Good luck with the bell...We're betting Melly learns the Stealth Bell Walk within a week.

Ridiculously floofy, indeed!
