Melly Continues to Usurp

I posted last month about Scarlett's comfy spot on top of my dresser, and then about Melly usurping it. Lately, though, instead of waiting until the spot is vacant, Melly has been kicking Scarlett out of it. However, I don't think that's actually her intention, because she goes right to the far corner of the dresser, curls up, and minds her own business. I think she is trying to hang out with Scarlett while still abiding by Scarlett's space and eye contact rules.

Of course, if Melly so much as twitches a whisker in a bothersome manner, Scarlett starts growling, then Melly taps at Scarlett (she doesn't have much force behind her smacks), and it all goes downhill from there.

LOL! Things tend to be a bit...uglier in our house, pretty much every day. Melly just wants to be closer to her sisfur. :-)

Oh it is too bad that Scarlett is still not a huge Melly fan - though I have some of that at my house too (it just depends on the cat combo). I am sure they will be better eventually, it just takes time! And at some point Scarlett may just give up and let her be nearby!

I think Melly just wants to be close to Scarlett but Scarlett isn't ready yet for all that togetherness. I think in time they will be snugglers :-)

Give it time...I'm betting Melly will wear Scarlett down, eventually.

Awwww poor girls. One day, maybe Scarlett will more than tolerate Melly. Until then, we'll keep our fingers and paws crossed!

Awww, I too hope that Scarlett will find that in the winter months, having Melly will be to snuggle with. My tuxi boy kitty likes to push my silver tabby off of the blanket located on the loveseat. He will literally sit on her to get her to move. Has to assert he is the alpha cat in the apartment.

Is it wrong for Scarlett to want her space? Perhaps if Melly played hard to get, Scarlett would come to her.

LOL, my two are just the same but in my case it's the older tuxedo(Mishi) that desperately wants to snuggle with the her younger gray/white sister(Rose). Mishi will sneak on the bed not making eye contact with Rose who is glaring at her, sometimes she gets away with it. Mishi looks so dejected but I give her extra love. I suspect they like each other more than they let on. If they are scared they both run to same corner together.

Poor Scarlett! I have one that is always trying to push aside a particular other one - wherever Bonnie likes to be on the bed, Daphne will develop a liking for that exact spot eventually, and chase her out of it. Bonnie adapts; Daphne pounces; Bonnie re-adapts. I have to run interference sometimes. When Daphne was a baby, she deferred a little, but now that they're the same size, forget it!

It was a little contentious last year when Iza arrived, but she and Ayla are sometimes found napping together these past few months.

The Big Thing

I've decided my two will never be snuggle buddies and I'm OK with that -- although I still wish they would be. But after going on four years, I've lost hope. It's not that the younger one won't -- she would in a heartbeat. It's the older one (albeit just one year older) that won't. I'm just glad they have each other for company when we're not home. They just peacefully co-exist -- with a few spats thrown in for good measure.
