A Spat

I was sitting on the couch, reading a book and minding my own business, when a disagreement sprang up between the kitties.

While these little arguments are pretty normal, it's very disconcerting when they happen practically on top of me!

And I have to share a story from yesterday morning. When I take a shower, Melly usually sits on the edge of the tub between the shower curtain and the clear liner curtain, watching the water. Yesterday, Melly tumbled into the tub, recovered her balance, then sat in the tub with her front half behind the liner curtain and her back half exposed to the shower spray. Of course, being so floofy, she had no idea she was getting wet until her entire derrière and tail were soaked. When she discovered her soggy back half, she squeaked indignantly and leaped out of the tub, then proceeded to alternately shake and bathe herself for the next 45 minutes. She was still a little disheveled when I got home from work.

What a great shower story!!! Archie used to be fascinated with the shower and bath, but he has grown out of it a bit. He used to jump in with me and didn't seem too mind that much that he got wet :-)

LOL I know exacty what you are talking about, on both counts, Bella has pulled a very similar stunt in our shower. And as for the squabbles, heh, try having one erupt when you're sound asleep with one kitteh on your chest and the other trying to steal pillow space from your head, then have one kitteh decide the other is too close...

You know, looking at the pics, it almost seems more like they're playing than really fighting, sure there be growling and hissing but Scarlett's posture doesn't seem aggressive. (In my absolutely non-expert opinion lol)

MOL @ Melly in the shower!

Nicki and Derry will start wrasslin' on the mom's bed, usually while right up against her legs, but she chases them off when they do -- they really get into it, even though it's just play.

Poor Melly! Moosey is also fascinated by the shower, and he too sometimes cruises between the curtain and the liner...

That is a great shower story! I have to agree that it doesn't look like much of a fight. Heck, Scarlett didn't even get up! Of course, that doesn't mean a nearby human won't be hooked by an errant claw. Melly is obviously a skilled pugilist.

To me, the worst thing about cat arguments is the noise! Other than a meow or a trill, the other sounds that come out of a cat's mouth can be otherworldly, and not in a good way. Makes my adrenaline surge!

LOVE the shower story! At least Melly had something to do with her time instead of getting into mischief.

I agree with the other comments that this just looks like playing. My two cats who now live with the wasband play like this all the time and seem to have a lot of fun with it. It was always disconcerting to me but the vet assured us it was normal play behavior. Especially with the story about Scarlett grooming Melly from the other day, they seem to get along great.

We've had spats break out right in front of Mom and it's usually over before she can react.

None of us are interested in the shower (that's all Mom has in her bathroom)...she does wonder what we would do if she had a bathtub.

Oh dear, poor Melly. I hope she dried off well enough!

Sometimes, 9 and Chani decide that I'm an excellent wrestling ring and tussle. It's not always comfortable, but well, they do get along at other times!

Poor Melly! TBT says that LC used ta sit on the bath mat facing the door when he took showers. He thinks she was guarding him in his vulnerable state...

But she never got up on the tub an fell in.

What a goof you are Melly. How dare Mom get you all wet! I haven't had mine have a spat on me, yet.

I've had spats happen right next to me too. Looking at the photos, it just appears to be a domination thing and nothing serious. IME, they make a lot of noise but nothing happens.

Melly and the shower, oh boy. I wonder if she'll dare to sit there again.

Rene- our kittehs don't even argue, they just playfight. Not even domination.

Love the shower thing. I'd love to hear that squeak.
