Giveaway Time!

As promised, I shall be doing a cookie giveaway! This weekend, I'll be making:
  • Snowballs (sometimes called Russian tea cakes or Mexican wedding cakes)
  • Thumbprints
  • Cranberry bars
  • Magic cookie bars
  • Molasses cookies
  • Possibly some kind of cut-out cookie
And some of these could be yours! All you have to do to enter the random drawing is leave a comment and tell me the cutest thing your cat has ever done.

In a day or two, I will use the random number generator on random.org to select a winner.

Clockwise from bottom left: honey kuchen, snowballs, magic cookie bars, pfeffernusse

Thumbprints

Disclaimer: I found this photo (for these photos are the same picture cropped differently) in the depths of my computer, and chances are good that I didn't actually make the cookies shown. But I can make these cookies, and they look just the same when I do. So let's pretend they're mine, shall we?

Being on the wrong side of the pond for this I have no idea what these are BUT they look delicous!!

We call those thumbprint cookies apricot almond cookies, because the recipe we use takes almond extract and you put in apricot jam! Or thimble cookies--same idea, you fill them with any jam, use vanilla extract. Yummy.

Have fun with the baking, but please don't enter us in the draw. Can't imagine you could send cookies to Canada anyway -- and even if you could, the Customs people would probably confiscate -- and eat -- them! MOL!

I would love a nice cookie assortment!

So for the funniest thing my cat/s has done, I give you the following:

Taro, our 7 month old Ragdoll kitten likes to squeeze himself under our dog's water and food holder (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-_KEFGzD1U )or attack human feet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGU910ilwLk)

Tonks, our 1 1/2 yr old DSH tortie likes to climb to the highest point of elevation in our apartment, and during our bathroom renovation, that meant the top of our new bathtub (in its box, upright).

Although she isn't a cat, our dog does loads of cute things. When she has to go outside and do her thing, she "mouths" at us to let us know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34p_uBz19OI

The funniest thing my Chloe has ever done would have to be when my fiancé took her along in the car to pick up dinner and he let her pretend to drive and took a picture where it looked like she was yelling at all of the crazy drivers.

Hamlet, my biggest boy (I have 3 brothers, all rescued, 14, 15 & 20 pounders that will be 8 years old at Christmas) loves to lie on the hassock in front of the woodstove, so completely "inside out" that he looks like a white cat (he's a tuxedo) and sleeps so soundly that his eyes are open...

When I lived in a studio apt in Boston, my Jack was going through cat toys left and right. They were just disappearing somewhere. I searched all over for some hole or hiding place. It was a tiny apartment - they had to be going somewhere! It wasn't until I moved out that I discovered he had been hiding them under a bookcase. I don't know how he got them there, because the front was flat and the back was against the wall, but the underside of the bookcase was crammed full of glitter mice, rolly balls, and fluffy mice.

We had a large, silly Bengal who decided he wanted a chicken dinner. My husband found him in the kitchen dragging a 2-lb package of chicken pieces across the floor!

I'd love to taste your cookies. They all sound SO good!

Cookies! Yay!

Well, my cat Widget (alias the Widge and Chirp because she doesn't meow, just chirps) acts like she is dignified and stately, but it's all a ruse. When I get home from work, the first thing she does is yell at me for being gone all day (in tiny, high-pitched chirps); she then throws herself on her back, displaying her ample tummy for some immediate belly-rubs. It's even funnier when she is just sitting on the floor nonchalantly, then, out of nowhere, WUMPH, on her back, paws splayed in four different directions, looking at me as if asking, "So, where are the pets?"

yum!!

My largest cat tried to climb into the closet through the little space we leave open for kitty hiding but I have been hiding christmas gifts in there so she squeezed in and tried to jump down only to find she had nowhere to go. She ended up doing a headstand and trying to squirm her way back out with back feet sticking straight up. :)

Oh what a cool contest! Cookies are so awesome and I haven't had a chance to make any yet this year. So with 6 cats there is a lot of cute, but I decided to pick Barney for the entry today. One of the cutest things he did is jump in a bowl when I was cooking and start trying to play with his tail, and then just sleeping in it, or sitting and looking cute. Of course I actually have photographic proof if you need it - it is on the blog at http://houseofcats-amy.blogspot.com/2009/07/bowl-full-of-barney-plus-boogie-mat.html post. It was when he was still little, so he fit in really well - he is way to big for the bowl now!

My crazy Spike likes to knead my neck and face, while emitting a snore-like noise, his version of purring. When he is really relaxed, he'll start drooling, which snaps him out of it. He starts smacking his lips and then jumps down like he is embarrassed....or maybe he's just thirsty!

When he was a kitten, he also would carry stuff around in his mouth, growling. Cutest thing ever, and I was sorry he grew out of it!

My cat, Caleb (he passed away few years back on Valentine's day), use to sniff and lick my eyelashes when i was sleep. Also he would sniff my ear whenever he was feeling extra special.

Ps... if i don't i want the recipe for the magic cookie bars please :)

My girl Izzy used to make nests with tissues, cat toys, and whatever else she could find when she was a baby. Now she says "Bless you!" whenever someone sneezes. Well she doesn't actually say it, but she meows whenever someone does and purrs when you say "Thank you!" back. I didn't teach her purposefully, she just picked it up somehow. It's just so cute.

my cats are very opportunistic and they love the big comfy lazy-boys in the living room, especially the one my dad usually sits in. They'll either jump up on his lap and make biscuits on his chest (also preventing him from working, reading the newspaper, or watching tv) or they'll wait until he gets up to go to the kitchen or the bathroom or something and immediately claim his seat. He's tried scooting them off the chair, pushing them to the side, or generally sitting nearly on top of them, none of which works.
by the way, I used to make russian tea cakes and thumbprint cookies with my mom when I was a wee slip of a thing. They are my favorite! (well, next to the classic chocolate chip of course!)

The cutest thing that my kitty has done was trying to climb our Christmas tree!! She's a bit too bit to do that, and could barely get past the first few layers :)

My crazy boy Maui does this bucking bronco thing when he's playing with toys...he springs straight up, bucks & kicks his back feet out, spins 180 degrees and takes off in the opposite direction. I've never seen a cat move like this in my life!

The cookies look great and they inspire me to get started on some baking of my own just in case I don't win. My dear departed kitty, Bentley, used to sleep with his head on my pillow and when I would wake up in the morning he would be staring at me--probably willing me to wake up and feed him.

I need cookies like I need a hole in the head, but they sound too good to pass up!

My two current kitties are still growing out of their shelter personalities, so I'll tell about Sputnik. He LOVED Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream. One time I served up a dish for my husband, who was on the computer, and one for me while I read the paper. Sputnik pestered me most masterfully, so I gave him a tiny lick, and he went away. After awhile he came back. Another lick, and he seemed satisfied and left me alone. After awhile I realized a pattern was developing, so I stopped reading and watched him. Sure enough, he'd come to me, get his lick, then go to my husband and get a lick. Then back to me, back to him...it was quite entertaining!

We used to put tomatoes on the windowsill to ripen and some days we'd come home and they would be on the kitchen floor. We couldn't figure out how they got there. Then one day I was in another room and I heard a large thump noise and I went into the kitchen and my black cat Buffalo was standing over a tomato, taking a big bite out of it. He looked adorable even though he was being naughty. Black cat, red tomato, white floor. He was picture perfect cute. After that we'd give him little pieces of tomato in his kitty bowl so he'd stop stealing ours.

When I have a migraine, either Mishka or Sasha, or sometimes both, come lay with me. Mishka also has a super sensor as to what side of my head my migraine is on and goes to snuggle me on that side. I don't know if it's the cutest thing they do, because everything they do is cute, but it's certainly one of the sweet caring things they do.

Those cookies look very yummy!

Angel does something cute every day so it's hard to pick. One of the cutest things that she's doing right now is sprawling out on my desk so I have to peek around her to see this and her tail is getting tangled up with my fingers as I type!

Well, technically I don't have any cats, but Scarlett and Melly seem to think I belong to them at times. And I don't have any good stories of epic cuteness to share, but every time I vent to you about something horrible they have done to me, you giggle and coo and talk about how cute it is and say things like, "They LOOOOOOOOVE you!" which only causes me greater frustration. ;-)

On the other hand, I suppose I could get cookies if I wanted, so prob best not to include me in the drawing. Love you N,
Geoff

We love cookies here, and think it's wonderful of you to share them with your blogger friends How can I pick just one cute thing?? Right now, I'd have to say that Sadie sleeping in her new-to-her tent bed is so darn cute. She looks out the little hole and I can hardly stand all the cute-ness!

Looks like I missed out on the sweetfest! okay my story is that you would think kitties don't like water (well most don't), well I have a video of my silver tabby Mia fishing in a puddle on my deck. It just makes me laugh to watch the video of her standing in the puddle fishing!

Cookies. Yum!
My older cat, Jasper, taught himself to get in the clothes hamper for a quiet nap. When Ruby came along he taught her. Now it's mostly her place. I always have to check before I throw laundry in the hamper.

Wow! Sounds good. Count me in.

Cutest thing huh? Havelock by far has got to be the cutest of the house (sorry tux). In the mornings, he will sit by the bed and stretch so his front paws are on the and stare. After a few minutes he'll gently, very gently, pat you on the face or arm. Then bat. bat bat bat until you wake up and pick him up. Then he'll repeat it while he's in your arms before giving you kitty kisses on the cheek and running off.
