Scarlett Purrs

When Scarlett wants attention, she starts to purr before seeking it so that by the time she has settled herself in my lap or started head-butting my hand, her motor is going full bore. If I approach her, she starts purring as soon as she notices that attention is imminent.

Here's a recording.

In other news, I got a furminator yesterday to deal with Scarlett's shedding. Scarlett is not normally a fan of brushing, but both she and Melly (who doesn't shed nearly as much as Scarlett does) seem to actually like this new device. And I have now brushed out enough fur to make a third cat.

Do any of you use a furminator? How often do you brush your cat with it? Do you like it?

I have a furminator. It is really good though I worry that I am removing too much fur, but I am sure that is not the case. If I could get myself on a schedule with it, I'd try to brush them at least once a week, but I am lucky to get it done once or twice a month.

Obviously just THINKING about your lap or petting gets her purrin gin advance. What a great motor!

No furminator here: probably SHOULD get one, but Mom has hesitated because I only like my head and back brushed, never sides or tummy.

we are owned by 3 boys and they fight over who will get brushed next, to the point of butt-bites, LOL... just be careful not to do it every day or for too long because you can make the skin tender... need to find mine -- it has gotten "loved" under a couch by Houdini -- same boy who likes to brush his teeth on soft brushes!

My Emily never liked being brushed until I got a Furminator last year -- and at the age of 14 she discovered she LOVES being furminated! The one thing I learned, though, is that you do have to be careful not to do too much at first. It's pretty tempting since it's so astonishing how much hair it cleans off them, but as Allison just said, it's important to not irritate their skin till they're used to it. Other than that, I have nothing but praise for the silly thing!

And for our dog Rusty (my avatar), who's now at the bridge, I used to be able to get about three dogs' worth of hair off him with the big dog-sized Furminator. Every bird and squirrel in the neighborhood loved it when I'd take him outside and brush him -- I'm sure they all still have nests thickly lined with soft Rusty fur!

I love Scarlet's purrs :-) Casper likes the furminator but the others not so much. But on the other hand Casper likes regular brushings too.

Oh, sweet purring Scarlett! :-)

We have a Furminator, though none of the cats like it much. I used it on them once a week, and it does cut down on the amount of fur around the house. Some tips: try to brush in a single room, since the fur flies everywhere. I will usually have a small garbage can nearby to catch the fur as I go.

I think the furminator is amazing. I use it maybe twice a week, but usually on different parts of Hannah.

No other brush ever comes close to being this good.

My girlie cat Kenai loves the Furminator and will sit for a long time to be brushed. Her brother Kodiak, whose hair is much shorter, likes to be brushed with it, as long as he doesn't see it. As soon as he turns around and realizes there's something on him other than a hand he runs away. Silly, wimpy boy cat! I have no set brushing schedule. The furminator sits near my computer so whenever anyone jumps up on the desk or sits on the keyboard they're fair game for brushing.

I love when my dad uses the furminator on me. I trained him to brush me with it as I stand on a tray table. He normally brushes me for a few minutes when he gets home from work. He will start with the furminator for a few passes and then just switches to a regular brush.

Heh-heh, my human tried to listen to the video, but I was purring in her ear really loudly, trying out drown out Scarlett!

I love, love, LOVE the furminator! Boodie (who REALLY needs furminating) likes it too, just not as much as me. Trust me, none of us get furminated enough.

Such a sweet purr Scarlett!

We have a furminator but still don't like to be combed. It does help that it gets more done in a shorter amount of time. We like that part!

Scarlett is sure serious about her purring isn't she??? OMC she has a strong purr! My Cody doesn't purr that much and Bobo did, I think it is strange that Cody doesn't.

I don't own a furminator but am interested to hear what you thought of it. Why don't you give us a review? :)

Both my cats love to be brushed...to the point where they can't be brushed since they are squiggling around so much! I brush daily...a bit with the Furminator and then a different brush from the "collection"...
