A Tale of Persistence

Does she have bones?! I mean, seriously.

Melly's favorite treat is freeze-dried chicken. I believe the bag came in the Paw it Forward package from Cat - we've been rationing. Originally, the bag of chicken was kept on a low shelf with the rest of the treats, but when Melly pulled it out and almost gnawed through the bag, it was moved to the top of the shelf. A while ago, Melly jumped on top of the shelf and knocked everything off it, scaring herself half to death, and she left the treats alone after that.

That is, until today. While I was at work, Geoff heard a crash and found Melly on the floor surrounded by the contents of the shelf and gnawing on the bag of freeze-dried chicken. I advised him to move the chicken to the drawer of the coffee table, reasoning that she couldn't possibly get it there. Well, she couldn't, but she could pull out much of the rest of the drawer's contents by reaching into the back of the drawer from under the table.

The bag of chicken then went on a shelf that's about six feet off the ground inside the walk-in closet. I figured she couldn't possibly get it down from where it was wedged between two plastic bins. In hindsight, I really shouldn't have been surprised: I was on the phone with my mom when out of the closet trotted Melly, dragging the bag of freeze-dried chicken.

The chicken is now on a higher shelf, inside a bin. Let's see how long it takes her to get it.

Good luck... Chaos taught himself how to open closets, cabinets, and drawers so he could at the treats and cat food. The closets are now bungeed shut and the cabinets and drawers have child-proof locks on them. Chaos is displeased. :)

What a character she is!! She is loaded with intestinal fortitude and doesn't wait for someone to help her. She's a thoroughly modern kitty

Those must be potent chicken treats! I guess the problem will stop once they are finished :-)

Our Tamyra is like that! She can't open drawers yet - thank goodness.

Have you considered purchasing a safe, Natalie?

Phoebe's treats live in the refrigerator. Only safe spot in the house. :)

There are only 2 places we cant get at. First, the refrigerator. We cant open THAT door! Second, the microwave. It has some magnetic stuff holdin it shut. The Big Thing often shoves his food in there when he leaves the room.

But sometimes he forgets about it until it is spoilt, so the joke is on him!

When she opens the bin you will have to give her a reward!

Melly really does love those treats! We think we need to get some freeze dried chicken!

Our guyz love those too, though they are getting harder to find around here. Have you tried the freeze-dried sardines or shrimp yet?

One word for Melly: GOOFBALL. Every time you post a photo of her belly up with her paws curled, I crack up. I could look at these all day long.

And one word for you: TUPPERWARE. If I didn't hide freeze-dried treats in snap-on bulletproof tupperware, Sasha would still be hanging off the kitchen light trying to get them off the shelf that sits almost all the way at the ceiling over the kitchen sink.
