An Automobile Adventure

A couple of Fridays ago, the kitties and I rode up with Geoff to his house, which is about an hour's drive from mine. There was some miscommunication and it turned out that we had two lengthy stops to make before getting to Geoff's house, with the end result that we were in the car for over three hours. On both stops, I opened the doors of the cats' carriers so they could come out and stretch their legs. Despite how much she loathes her carrier, Scarlett had no interest in leaving its familiar confines, but Melly leaped right out of hers and commenced investigating every square inch of the inside of Geoff's car. She took a few breaks to crawl into Scarlett's carrier with her for some quick snuggles, and Scarlett only growled a little.

Here is Melly after her thorough investigation of the car was complete:

She is quite the little adventurer, this one.

And by the way, my sister got in last night. Melly has been the perfect little angel, only taking a couple little nibbles at my sister's fingers. (Scarlett mostly stayed away - sister's boyfriend came too and he is Unfamiliar.) When my sis was last here, Melly woke her up a couple of times at night by ferociously chomping on her nose, so one of the first things she asked when she decided to come for the summer was, "Melly isn't going to bite me at night, is she?" So far, so good. Although Melly is being so affectionate that I am beginning to suspect that she's just buttering my sister up!

How interesting re the car and the different response of the 2 of them.

Aww, Melly, those were love bites, right? And Scarlett, you really DO have to be cautious about the Unfamiliar People.

We sneak kisses from our humans when they're asleep too. Fun!

Don't let your guard down A, Melly is just lulling you into a false sense of security before she eats your nose. :) They are brilliant, these kitties

I so understand the toe catching, I just love to do that. Not quite sure why hoomans don't appreciate that game though!!! It looks like Melly really enjoyed a birds eye view there. I think Simba agrees with Scarlet though and would stay in his box too :)xx

It always seems to be a toss up how cats are going to be in the car. Nice to see that Melly is so casual about it all, maybe Scarlet will come around in time :-)

Thank goodness Jimmy was an angel when we adopted him from Chrystal because it was 8 hours to get home!!!

Sheesh! Mine howl non-stop in the car. Johnny sounds like an air-raid siren. You're lucky with your two.

Binga used to put the bitey on the humans' noses! They did not like it either.

Teddy likes to randomly bite mum and dad on the feet, or their lower legs. And he did bite dad on the nose once.

Oh this reminded me of Melly when she was Sally. Don't tell anyone, but whenever we went to the shelter for check ups and what-not I'd let her out of the carrier, rest my left elbow on the car door, and there she'd sit for the duration of the ride. She'd even lie down.

I'm sure I already told you about this. Sometimes I'd even take 'the long way' to prolong the drive. She loved it.
