New Curtains

As I've mentioned before, my apartment is old. Really old. It's pretty drafty, and my winter heating bills are a little painful. So, in an effort to cut down on the drafts, I reworked an old set of curtains and put them on the bedroom windows. Unfortunately, they're red and my walls are green, but hey, it's almost Christmas anyway.

The cats aren't very fond of this new development, but they're adjusting.

Oh what fun captions could come of this:

"I am not the wizard of oz"
"Introducing the Great Scarlett Houdini"
"Watch Me Make Melly Cat Disappear"

It's a good thing Melly is all grown up! I can just imagine her scaling the curtains with glee.

Aw, man, mom, you are a killjoy! LOL

Seriously, have you tried adding some of that clear plastic to the windows? I've read up on this, and it can really help.

Have you considered thermal curtains? We have them at our patio doors, where the dog goes in and out, and they *really* keep the drafts down. They're not at all expensive, either, but boy, do they help.

And if you don't open your windows all winter, why not put some draft-blocking putty around the edges? That will seal up the cracks and keep the drafts down.

You can tell I've lived in drafty, chilly homes before, can't you? :)

LOL! We think it looks very festive! We'd suggest putting plastic over the windows--that would last oh, ten seconds with claws. (The mom knows this from experience.)

Oh, we see Rene suggested it, but we're not sure she's actually ever tried it. :-P

we used the plastic sheets over the windows and they stayed up almost all year (I didn't open the window anyway, so I figured I'd save money by not having to reinstall them this winter) Even in the kitten room they did fine until the adhesive gave way.

We're glad you can still get through the curtains to see the Birdie Network Scarlett!

call me crazy but I actually like the color combo! I think they would be great for napping during the day too because they are dark enough to block out the sun. I am hoping they help with the draft for you this winter!

We LOVE the curtains. Contrasting colors help us see things...

My mum used plastic on the windows in her last apartment, and us cats didn't claw at it once. So maybe that would be worth a try. Our current apartment has drafts too, but our heat is included in our rent so we are less worried about our bills this year. (and we wonder if the landlord should really be worrying about the old windows...)
