In which Melly saves the day

As some of you may have seen on Melly's Facebook page, my camera's memory card kicked the bucket on Saturday. Fortunately, I'd already taken off the pictures of Geoff's brother's wedding, but there were a bunch of pictures of the cats that I hadn't yet transferred to the computer. This was very frustrating, since those pictures probably could've made up the blog posts for this whole week!

I'd forgotten about the video from yesterday, so that was a good find. But the cats studiously avoided doing anything photo-worthy for most of the weekend, so I was getting a little concerned about blog content. Then, on Sunday afternoon, I was folding laundry and turned around to find Melly like this:

"Oh, hi. Don't mind me. I'm just hanging out."

"I'll hold still so you can get some pictures of my glorious floof."

"Are we done yet?"

"No? Ok, one more."

I still have nothing for the rest of the week, so I'll just have to wing it!

In which Melly attempts to escape from a sheet

I was changing the sheets on the bed and Melly decided to "help"--by sitting in the middle of the bed and refusing to move. So, I wrapped her in the fitted sheet and deposited her on the floor. She crouched inside the sheet without moving for a while, but eventually began an escape attempt. Which I filmed, of course.

This picture isn't great (I had to lighten it a lot to get it to show up) but it's too cute not to share. The other night, I pulled back the covers to get into bed and discovered this:

Yes, Melly's paw is on Geoff's nose.

Geoff and I were in San Francisco for his brother's wedding over the weekend. It was a beautiful wedding, and a perfect reflection of the lovely couple.

(Side note: yes, Geoff and I are still engaged; no, we have not set a date; yes, I answered those questions at least two dozen times over the weekend. Geoff was asked once. By his brother. As a joke.)

Moving on... Here's Scarlett, enjoying some lap time and making goofy faces. My silly sweet girl.

In which Melly helps

A friend and coworker of mine is expecting a baby next month, so I've been doing a lot of knitting of tiny hats and shopping for tiny things. (It's so hard to resist the wee shoes!) Her baby shower was on Saturday, so I had some presents to wrap; Melly decided to assist.  The presents came from Amazon in a perfectly cat-sized box, and Melly was kind enough to sit in the box to make sure it didn't blow away. Which can happen on kitchen tables.

"Look at me, I'm helping."

"I'm also very much not on the kitchen table."

"Because I'm in a box, obviously."

"This is getting boring. There isn't room to lay down."

When she was done with the box, Melly generously shed all over the wrapping paper, thus ensuring that every piece of tape on the wrapped presents was garnished with several black cat hairs.

In which Melly continues to enjoy her box

Thank you all for your lovely comments on Melly's gotcha day! We had a nice little celebration. Although, as far as Melly's concerned, every day is her day (she does not suffer from lack of ego), so I'm not sure she really noticed anything different about Wednesday. Ah well.

Anyway, I thought I'd give an update on Melly's new box: she has barely been out of it since I put it on the shelf. Yesterday, I came home to find the box and quilt on the floor, probably knocked over during a spat between the cats.  The box was askew, partially propped up on the base of a lamp--and Melly was in it anyway, balanced somewhat precariously but still managing to look utterly relaxed.  I put the box back up on the shelf, and she's in it now as I'm typing this.

Happy Gotcha Day, Melly!

Three years ago today I went to the Humane Society to meet Sally Dickens, who had captured my heart on Pitter Pats of Baby Cats.

Although the photos like this one were adorable...

...the ones like this are what got my attention:

Now here, I thought, is a kitten with spunk.

I had absolutely no idea what I was in for when I took the little imp home and renamed her Melly. The beginning was difficult--I'd never had a kitten that young before and my dear Scarlett was in utter hell--but after a while, we all adjusted.

Three years later, Melly is all grown up and still has the same precocious personality I first saw on Sue's blog. She is mischievous and silly and affectionate, and I am so glad we found each other.

"Mom, are you coming to bed? It's late and I want to snuggle."

"Any time now."

Melly's New Box

I found a nicely Melly-sized box recently, put a catnip quilt inside, and put the box on top of the tall bookshelf. Melly wasn't sure what to think at first, and sat like this for about an hour:

"Your offering displeases Us."

"Ok, maybe it's not so bad."

Lovely Scarlett

"Well, now that you've interrupted my nap,
I may as well mug for the camera."

"Bored now."

A Weekend Excursion

I brought the kitties with me to Geoff's for Easter weekend, and as usual, they had a ball looking out the window, bird watching and enjoying sun puddles.

"Where'd she go? I just wanted to play."
