"It's New Year's Eve, y'all--that means it's time for a party!
Of course, I party by laying on the bed doing nothing.
It's how I roll."

"Stay safe tonight, everyone!"

Melly the Destroyer

Here is Melly, looking very proud of herself:

Would you like to know why?  It's a doozie.

She puked a giant puddle right on my bed.  Right after I'd changed the sheets. It went through all the layers of bedding. The reason for the puking?  None. She just ate too fast.

Oh, and half an hour later, she chewed on and ruined my sister's iPod headphones.

That's right, Melly. Look ashamed.

Lovely Guest Kitty

My sister and I went on a short road trip to the same hotel Geoff and I visited last month. You may remember my post about Brook, one of the hotel's resident kitties. I didn't get to hang out with him this time, but I did get some pictures of Alder, Brook's sister.  She really took to my sister, and "helped" her with her studying. Isn't she cute?

Scarlett and My Sister

Scarlett is not very friendly with new people, or even people she hasn't seen in a while, but she was surprisingly calm around my sister. She allowed my sister to scritch her head, and even gave her a few head-butts. For Scarlett, that's pretty good!

A visit from my sister!

As some of you may remember, my sister stayed with me for the summer a couple years ago, and she and Melly became the best of friends. Well, my sister came back for a visit last week and Melly was so excited.  Here are some photos of their joyful reunion:

Melly the Snugglebug

As previously mentioned, Melly likes to burrow when it's cold. At night, she sometimes crawls under the covers with me. She's very warm, so it's quite cozy.

I read somewhere that cats evolved the ability to meow solely to talk to humans; when they communicate with each other, it's mostly nonverbal. Scarlett is quite a chatterbox and has a large vocabulary of trills and mews, which she mostly uses to chastise me for my sub par service of her royal highness. Sometimes, though, I think she tries to communicate with me in Cat. She has a very expressive face.

Rambunctious Nocturnal Creatures

Scarlett and Melly have been very active at night lately. much to the detriment of my beauty rest. It is not uncommon for me to wake up in the middle of the night to this scene:

"Hi Mom! We're just standing guard."

"Y'know, hanging out and lurking creepily next to your head."

"Just go back to sleep. Don't mind us."

Melly the Knitting Assistant

In the winter, I spend much of my free time knitting. As you can imagine, the cats are utterly entranced by the yarn. Melly also likes the blocking process.  To block a scarf, I stretch it out on the ironing board, spray it until it's damp, and pin it down all along the edges. To protect the damp scarf from certain curious felines and their constant shedding, I throw a towel over it. Melly doesn't mind the pin heads that stick up from the board, and just plops herself down on it.

"I love new napping spots!"

"I could do without all these poky pins, though."

Melly the Burrower

We are having an unseasonably chilly winter here in the Pacific NW, and the cats seem to be on a continual quest for the toastiest spot in the apartment.

Scarlett usually goes for the obvious: camp out in front of the wall heater. Melly, however, has decided to channel her inner rabbit and burrow under blankets, piles of clothes, or reclining humans. She's very determined, and it's pretty funny to watch.  Here, she is rummaging in a pile of clean sheets:

And here, she has buried herself under some clean socks.

"What? It's cozy!"
