Happy Blue Friday!

As some of you may be aware, our local Seahawks are playing in the Superbowl this weekend. I'm not a football fan but I have to admit that I've gotten a little swept up in the 12th man fever.  Geoff, on the other hand, is a total football fanatic and I came home the other day to find that he'd dressed Melly in a tiny Seahawks cheerleader outfit.

Meet the 12th kitty, the Seahawks' grumpiest, most reluctant fan.

"We are no longer friends."

Working from Home

Recently, I needed to read through a very long legal document and just couldn't concentrate in the office, so I took it home and got situated at the kitchen table. And then this happened:

I finally had to employ the squirt bottle to keep Melly off the table. She and Scarlett settled for taking turns on my lap instead, which was actually rather a pleasant way to work!  Too bad we don't have a Take Your Kitten To Work Day at my office...

Melly and the Box

One of my Christmas presents was a giant box set of the Harry Potter movies, and Melly very much enjoyed the exterior box.

"Yes, this will do nicely."

"Where's my box, Mom?"

Snuggly Mellybean

One of my favorite things about Melly is the fact that she snuggles like she really means it. She leans in hard, purrs like crazy, and sometimes even strokes my face with her paw.  It's pretty darn cute.

Meet Fuzz, and a Plea to the Kitty Blog Network

This handsome fellow is Fuzz. My friend Tea sent me these pictures with the note, "Here are a series of photos taken when I foolishly thought I could wrap gifts in the presence of a cat. The final picture was my ultimate solution-- I gave Fuzz a decoy roll just for his personal amusement while I finished wrapping."

I wish I'd thought of using a decoy roll while I wrapped all my Christmas presents!  Smart.

Anyway, here's the thing about Fuzz and Tea: Tea loves cats, but she is horribly allergic to them. Fuzz was a stray hanging around her apartment complex and he sort of adopted Tea.  She takes care of him and feeds him, and she built him a toasty little fort outside the door to her apartment.  As you can see from the photos, he comes indoors sometimes, but he can't be inside for long because of Tea's allergies.  This arrangement works out ok, but Tea is going to be moving soon and she can't take Fuzz. She would love to find him a home with someone who has the patience to acclimate him to indoor life. Tea is pretty sure he was someone's pet at some point, because he has been neutered and is very friendly.

So... does anyone know anyone in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area who might be a good match for Fuzz?

Thank you for the lovely birthday messages for Melly.  I still can't quite believe she's four. I think that's partially because I don't want to believe that Scarlett is closing in on twelve. Scarlett has been a constant in my adult life so far; if Melly is getting older, I have to admit that Scarlett is too.

Anyway. I don't have any pictures for today as I have a horrible cold and used up all my energy at the office earlier (I'm typing this Monday night).  Fortunately, the cats are being very snuggly and sweet--Scarlett is purring up a storm on my lap now--and we all know that kitty purrs are the best medicine.

Have a lovely Tuesday, everyone!

P.S. Just as I was about to hit "post," Geoff called from the other room that somekitty has vomited on the bed. Again. And I just changed the sheets. Again. My cats are really flipping lucky they're so cute.

Melly's Birthday

Melly is four years old this year! Can you believe it? I still think of her as a wee tiny kitten.

To celebrate, I opened a brand-new bag of freeze-dried chicken, Melly's favorite treat, and let the cats go to town.

Snoozing with the Kitties

Today's photo offers you an intimate view into life with Scarlett and Melly. (Don't get too excited. It's a bit blurry.) Geoff took this one very early in the morning a couple days ago.

That's me, zonked out, with both cats in their usual nighttime positions.

I was catless for nearly two weeks over the holidays, and it took several days to get used to sleeping without my two fuzzballs. (When I got back, it was another few days before I got used to them again. Melly, you see, likes to surprise me at 3am by using my face as a pillow so that I wake up, slightly suffocated, with a face full of floof. It takes a bit to re-adjust to that.)

Do your cats sleep with you? Do they have favorite spots on your bed?

Sadie returns!

I just got back from a trip to the East Coast to visit family over Christmas and haven't taken any new pictures of the kitties to share. We've been too busy making up for two weeks of lost snuggles! So, to hopefully tide you over while I catch up on my cat photography, I have some new pictures of Sadie to share.

You may remember Sadie from a post two years ago. She's my uncle's dog, a rescue who had been badly treated by a previous owner. I hadn't seen Sadie since I took the pictures for that last post, so I was excited to get to see her again. She is such a sweet and happy pup, and is utterly enamored with my uncle. She didn't have much time for anyone else, and only started paying attention to us when we covertly snuck some chicken to her under the dinner table. In fact, that's how I got her to hold still for these pictures: my sister is just out of the frame, holding some chicken.

End of the Holidays

"The holidays are over. It seems weird."

"A little anticlimactic, y'know?"

"But hey, we can now begin the countdown to other holidays.
47 days until my gotcha day. Just sayin'."

Happy New Year!

"Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you enjoyed the festivities."

"I'm pretty wiped out, myself."
