Recently, inspired by this video, Sierra decided to try putting a leash on Linus. I had a couple of harnesses from previous attempts to walk Scarlett and Melly, so I gave them to her to try on Linus. Surprisingly, he didn't object!

Melly and the Laundry
Melly loves laundry day. She burrows in the piles of warm clothes and purrs her fuzzy little head off. Can you spot her in these pictures?

Window Kitties
Like most cats, Scarlett and Melly spend quite a bit of time looking out the window. When I'm outside my building, I often see them perched on the sills. They don't usually seem all that interested in me, preferring to focus on the dogs and outdoor cats passing by.

Friday Instagram Roundup
We're now all caught up on Instagram photos!
Melanie Hamilton Wilkes, bringing ridiculousness to a whole new level since 2010.
12th Kitty returns
...and promptly starts sulking.
(Note: this picture and the three below were taken within about 3 hours of each other.)
The chair is equally enjoyable upside down, apparently.
Ok, this is just ridiculous.
I promise to stop taking pictures of my cat. Eventually.

Ruel & the Kitties
Ruel and I work very different schedules, so he often ends up hanging out at my apartment by himself with the cats. Sometimes, he sends me updates. He texted these pictures to me the other day; the captions are his.
"I knew she was a demon cat!"
"'Hi mom, I'm bored...'"
"'I don't understand why everyone hates the close seats in the movie theater...'"

Catch-up Instagram Roundup, Part 4
My view right now.
A paper bag never stays empty for long around here.
The surprising proximity is due to the cats' exhaustion from mounting a vigorous defense of the apartment against a tiny tortie cat on the sidewalk outside. Their main strategy involved meowing loudly.
Morning snuggles with Melly.

Early morning cat attack.
People and creatures are sleepy at chez Natalie.

Linus The Ridiculous
My coworker Sierra sent me a couple photos of her cat Linus recently, and I had to share them with you. I think my cats are pretty darn cute, but I have to admit that Linus ascends to new levels of adorableness.
Linus is not supposed to be on the counters, but he went through a brief period of attention-seeking naughtiness. I like that he is meowing defiantly in this photo.
Sierra and her boyfriend got a new table, and Linus assumed that one of the spots was for him, so he sat down and waited to be served.

Catch-up Instagram Roundup, Part 1
My pillow has been usurped.
A certain feline woke me up just now, pouncing on something in the bed. Turns out it was some sort of really fast-moving centipede, which is now loose somewhere in my room. Not sure I can sleep now.
I caught her mid-lick. I love when cats are undignified.
Cats are the best nappers.

It seems I accidentally took a hiatus...
Humblest apologies. It's been one of the best summers of my life, but unfortunately blogging ended up falling by the wayside. Here's a quick summary of what you missed:
1. I met someone.
His name is Ruel and he's great. He loves my kitties, and his efforts to befriend Scarlett will be the subject of a future post.
It's a (very, very belated) birthday gift for Geoff's daughter. It's 11"x14" and I never want to cross-stitch again. Fortunately it's knitting season now.
3. I hung out with my family.
My sister was in Portland for the summer, and since she was in Texas the last four years, it was great to have her so near. Here we are in Oregon wine country hanging out with some gorgeous Dales ponies.
My mom also came out for a while. Because she's allergic to cats and therefore doesn't try to touch them at all, Scarlett loves her.
4. I started volunteering with the USO and resumed volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters. And work got nuts.
No photos of that. They'd be pretty boring.
I have some pictures of the cats from the last, ahem, couple months, which I will start posting on Monday.
